Material of the Month: March 2015 – Larch

Why it’s inspired us…

The images of the Inn at John o’ Groats and the brightly coloured timber cladding samples in the Best Use of Timber Awards Exhibition have us thinking more about the potential of Scottish Larch.

Tannins and extracts in the wood create a high resistance to decay and rot. As it contains minimum sapwood with correct detailing Larch can have a lifespan of 30-50 years.

Larch weathers consistently to a striking shade of silver/ grey.

Why we’d like it to inspire you…

A number of projects in the Best Use of Timber Awards Exhibition feature Larch, how many can you find? How many of our case studies feature Larch?

Look at the different cladding patterns available in Larch on the walls and in case studies, which would you choose for your own house?
